Feast of St. Joseph Pignatelli, S.J.
Titus 3: 1-7
Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show every courtesy to everyone. For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, despicable, hating one another.
But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy, through the water of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit. This Spirit he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

God saved us…through the Holy Spirit who gives us new birth and new life by washing us in the
waters of baptism.
A native in a village refused baptism, even though his friends asked for it. The surprised missionary asked, “Is there something in your instruction that bothers or confuses you?” “No!” said the native, “The thing I want to discover now is if baptism will make a difference in the lives of my friends.”
After a month of careful observation, the native returned to the missionary and said, “I am now ready to be baptized. Baptism does indeed make a difference. I want Jesus Christ to do for me what he has done for my friends.”
Concretely, how is my life different because of my baptismal commitment?
Baptism signifies that the old Adam in us is to be drowned . . . and that the new person should daily
come forth. –

Lord, wherever my day takes me, whoever crosses my path, and whatever work I undertake, I commit myself to you. I pray that I am totally present to the people who share this day with me. Help me to really listen and not be preoccupied with preparing my response. Guide me so I am more interested in doing right than in being right. And after I have listened, Lord, help me to stand for the truth by speaking with courage and consideration.
